UNEP-EPLC Leadership Programme

What is the programme
- Leadership program is provided for those leaders who wish to get solution for the facing environmental problems in their region by supporting their hands-on activities or project through the on/off line learning process.
- Providing the opportunity to learn state-of-art technology and information through the programme and sharing the experience of other CSOs.
- Contributing the improvement of environmental conditions in Asia Pacific region with the authentic support from UNEP and Eco-Peace Leadership Center.
- Korea will share its precious experience with other leaders in AP regions to solve the various environmental disasters and problems.

How to work
- The programme will be carried out through cooperation between a trainee and its supporters consisting of academic experts and practitioners in Korea
- Most of the programme will be done through the on-line communication.
- The off-line cooperation consists of orientation and a week-long conference which are required), and field visit by supporters which is optional.
- Duration is one year in principle and can be multi year. But the multi year project will be decided at the reviewing the project result of the first year.



What fields to be focused
1. Desertification & Forest
   - Topic : Prevention of desertification, Prevention of Forest fire, Forest management
               Prevention of Illegal logging, etc.
2. Water & Dam
   - Topic : River conservation, Illegal waste water discharging, Prevent of river pollution
               Drinking water management, River maintenance, etc.
3. Urban Ecology
   - Topic : Managing and establishing urban forest, forest culture, National park
               management, Attempt to register them as natural monuments, etc.
4. Rural Area Revival
   - Topic : Agricultural technology, Hygiene maintenance, Rural area development
               Farmer consciousness improvement project, Organic farming techniques, etc.
5. Renewable Energy
   - Topic : Produce and use eco-friendly renewable energy, Waste recycle, Solar energy,
               Placing trash can in the village, Biomass energy, Wind generated power,
               Hydro power, Tidal energy, etc.
6. Peace & Cooperation
   - Topic : Settlement of environment conflict, Grievance mediation, Harmony schooling, etc.
               Prevention of Illegal logging, etc.
※ Don’t have to confine to the topics mentioned above. It would be fine to include other
    topics related to pending activity/project in your direction.

How to be categorized
Each field is categorized as follows:
1. Campaign & Raising Awareness
2. Education & Training
3. Research
4. Direct work
※ ‘Direct work’ is such on site- practical project as plantation, facility or equipment.

Financial Support
- EPLC will offer leadership program participants total 2000 USD as a financial support for the project. 40% of the support will be given at the orientation, the other 30% at the mid of the period, and the rest (30%) after result report is presented.
   ¤ The fund must be sent through the organization’s account by wire banking.
- An Economy class, round-trip air ticket between Seoul and the nearest international airport of the participant’s country.
- Meals and accommodation from arrival to departure excluding incidental charges, such as bills for telephone, laundry, video, mini-bar, etc.
- EMedical insurance covering medical treatment during their stay in Korea in accordance with the policies of a local insurance company. Expenses for medical treatment related to pre-existing illness, pregnancy and dental treatment are not covered by the insurance.

Eligibility
Environmental Activists or Practitioners-preferably the age of 25 to 45-working in environment-related fields in the Asia-Pacific region are eligible to apply. Applicants representing diverse sectors-government, the private sector, and civil society are eligible to apply. All applicants also are required to meet all conditions as follows:
- Applicants should have over five years of activity experience in environment/ conservation field.
- Applicants should possess a minimum of a four year college degree.
- The applicants should be proficient in spoken and written English.
- The applicants should be practitioners (rather than professionals in academia or research institutions).
- Project should be consist of the hands-on.

Supporting materials
Each application must provide the following:
1. Application Form
2. Project Plan
   The Plan Form should clearly explain introduction, contents, activity methods, expected effects,
   beneficiary, detailed activity plan, project schedule, budget plan. This should not exceed 10 pages.

3. Hands on Worker’s Information Form
4. Registered Corporation / Business License of Organization
   Scanned copy is preferred.
5. Pamphlet of Organization
   Scanned copy is preferred.
6. Hands-on worker’s Diploma
   Scanned copy is preferred.
